Abstract, Snapshot, Market Analysis & Market Definition: Global Wind Energy Foundation Market

Wind Energy Foundation Market: Overview

As reforms and policies stressing the adaptation of renewable energy are increasing, wind energy is expected to occupy a major market share of global power production in the coming years. Demand for clean energy as well as depletion of conventional reserves has promoted use of renewable energy resources. Wind energy structures can be segmented on basis of location as offshore and onshore projects. Offshore wind turbines are now being installed in deep water also. These structures are extremely huge and heavy. The tower constructed for wind turbines carries the weight of blades and also absorbs static loads caused by fluctuations in wind power. Along with the tower, the foundation also carries the weight of these structures. Hence to guarantee the stability of the wind energy project, the foundation should be strong enough to handle pressure exerted by the slender structure above it. Foundation refers to support structure or geotechnical component for wind turbines situated between tower and seabed. In the case of onshore wind energy projects, the foundation is constructed on different types of terrains under challenging soil and environmental conditions. For onshore construction, foundations can be segmented as a raft, pile, and well foundations, among others. Raft footing is among frequently used structures and comes in different shapes depending upon various factors such as wind class, type of tower, and turbine capacity. The foundation designs vary according to the project, ground conditions, and local rules and regulations.

Site Location insights: Wind Energy Foundation Market

Onshore was the largest segment accounting for 70.7% of the global revenue share. In the last decade, there has been significant growth in the number of commercial onshore wind farms. In North America, there are several commercial small capacity farms, which have prompted the expansion of the industry. The growing awareness of the benefits of renewable energy and the abundance in availability has made a positive impact on the overall development of the industry in the past few years. The offshore segment will be the fastest-growing segment over the forecast period on account of increasing offshore installations coupled with technological innovations, which have helped in building offshore facilities. Several companies in this industry are investing in building offshore installations in order to expand capability and access to electricity. The onshore category is segmented into the raft, pile, well foundation, and others. The raft is the largest segment in the onshore category and accounts for 39.4% of the global revenue share. It is also expected to be the fastest-growing segment over the forecast period. It is used in different structures, and its use depends on shapes and factors such as turbine capacity, type of tower, and wind class. The offshore sector is expected to witness the fastest growing segment on account of the increasing need to build large turbine sizes and capacity. The offshore wind energy sector is yet to realize its full potential. Presently the onshore sector is the largest segment as the smaller wind farms are easy to build and the cost of installation is not very high. The offshore category is segmented into mono-pile, jacket –pile, gravity, suction, and tripod. Jacket-pile is expected to be the fastest-growing segment at a CAGR of 15.8% over the forecast period. It is specially used in deep water technology on account of being lightweight and easy for installation. Mono-pile is the largest segment in this category and is used in several ongoing projects and seabed structures for sustainable energy production in Europe and has opened up new avenues for mono-pile foundations in Europe.

Regional insights: Wind Energy Foundation Market

Asia Pacific was the largest market accounting for 37.3% of the global revenue in 2015. Growing demand for clean energy in emerging economies of China and India and the expansion of the energy sector in these countries will have a positive impact on the overall industry. Europe was the second-largest market accounting for 34.4% of the global revenue. Countries such as Finland, Poland, and Norway have increased their installed capacity over the past few years, and the governments are aiming to provide electricity to the whole country through wind power. This will have a positive impact on the overall development of wind power in the region over the forecast period. North America is an essential region for the growth of the wind energy foundation market on account of the increasing focus on generating electricity through renewable energy sources. Government support for wind energy in terms of research and development, providing subsidies, and focusing on harnessing wind power by building innovative foundation designs structures is expected to play a crucial role in augmenting the market over the forecast period. More of the electricity will have to come from renewable sources, but countries are fast running out of space close to shore. Companies are contemplating if the answer to go farther out to sea. Hywind Scotland, which generates enough electricity for more than 20,000 homes, is the first wind energy array that floats on the sea surface rather than being dug into the ocean bed. Technology heralds a new generation of green energy. Hywind project, located in more than 300ft (90m) of water, and that the giant masts and turbines sit in buoyant concrete-and-steel keels that enable them to stand upright on the water, similar to a fishing buoy. The turbines nearly 10,000-ton cylindrical bases are held in place with three taut mooring cables attached to anchors, which lie on the seafloor. Ordinary offshore wind turbines, with long towers sunk into the seabed and bolted into place in shallow seas 60-160 ft (18-48.5m) deep, the advantage of floating turbines is that they can access large swathes of outlying ocean waters, up to half a mile deep, where the world’s strongest and most consistent winds blow. In Europe, where the density of onshore and near-shore wind turbines in places like Germany, the United Kingdom, and Norway has spurred increasing opposition to new arrays, the floating turbines can be installed over the horizon, out of sight of coastal residents. In 2020, the global Wind Energy Foundation market size was xx million US$ and it is expected to reach xx million US$ by the end of 2026, with a CAGR of xx% during 2021-2026. This report focuses on the global Wind Energy Foundation status, future forecast, growth opportunity, key market, and key players.
