According to some aspects, the present invention is able to estimate altitude in both open sky as well as in degraded GPS signal environments such as dense urban canyon environments where GPS performance is affected by fewer available satellites and/or multipath error. According to other aspects, the present invention uses data from a pressure sensor to estimate altitude, either with or without the use of GPS aiding data. According to further aspects, estimated altitude is integrated with other types of dead reckoning data to provide user context detection pertaining to changes of altitude.

Optical sensor with co-located pressure and temperature sensors

Abstract

An optical sensor that includes multiple filter cavities for the simultaneous, co-located measurement of pressure and a temperature in a single structure. The sensor may include a single launch fiber bonded to a tube a pre-determined distance from a reflective fiber. The end of the reflective fiber not encased within the tube is enclosed within a cap formed of a material that has a refractive index that changes with changing temperature. Alternatively, a material having a refractive index that changes with changing temperature can be inserted into the tube to take the place of the reflective fiber. Multiple launch fibers may be incorporated within a tube.

A tire pressure monitor system tool stores information regarding a plurality of tire pressure monitor systems installed on vehicles. The tool receives information regarding a particular vehicle. Based on the tire pressure monitor system installed on the vehicle, the tool may determine one or more procedures that may be used with that tire pressure monitor system.
