Hybrid water heating system
Abstract
A hybrid heating apparatus heats potable water with waste heat from heat recovery units and insolation from solar collectors. A single circulation pump circulates fluid between at least one heat exchanger and each of the heat recovery units and preferably the solar collector. A single controller receives sensor readings from the heat recovery units and the solar collector units and receives a demand to heat the potable water. To satisfy the demand, the controller determines the extent to which the demand may be satisfied from heat available from the heat recovery units and the solar collector units and sends command signals both to the circulating pump to circulate the fluid and to appropriate ones of valves at connections to those heat recovery units and solar collector units to allow fluid to circulate to be heated to flow to the heat exchanger for effecting heat exchange to heat the potable water.

Hybrid heating system including: a heat pump water heating system; sensors, for measuring a system parameter; an input arrangement providing cost data pertaining to a first power cost for supplying power to the heat pump system, and to cost information pertaining to a second power cost for operating a conventional heating system; a processor storing criteria specifying when to operate the heat pump and conventional systems, the processor receiving and processing: cost data; cost information; system parameter data; flow information on a heat exchange system circulation arrangement, and heat pump system power consumption information; and concurrently operating, upon demand, the heat pump system and a chiller system in opposite heating modes; wherein, when the chiller system operates in a cooling mode, the processor processes the cost data and information, system parameter data, and flow and power consumption information, and controls the systems based on the criteria.

Unitary garment heating device
Abstract
A unitary garment heating device that integrates with a garment to provide uniform heat throughout the garment. The device includes a plurality of nodes that position on various areas of the garment to distribute the heat. The nodes are fabricated from a conductive metallic yarn. A continuous conduit having no junctions carries current for generating heat, and connects the nodes to form a unitary heating device. The conduit is fabricated from the same material as the nodes, thereby forming a unitary device. The lack of junctions on the conduit helps eliminate problems such as shorts, and moisture exposure form rain or sweat. The conduit runs in a series circuitry to minimize shorts and arcing. The conduit is covered with a laminate and urethane to inhibit contact with moisture. A communication apparatus, such as a smart phone, monitors and regulates the temperature. A power supply and microprocessor are also attached.

February 2021: Watlow, one of St. Louis biggest manufacturers, to be acquired by private investment firm. Peter Desloge is chairman and CEO of Watlow. Desloge family shareholders will continue to have minority ownership in the nearly 100-year-old company. Maryland Heights-based electronics manufacturer Watlow has been acquired by private investment firm Tinicum LP, pending regulatory approvals. Owned by the Desloge family, Watlow is a maker of thermal systems and related software, and employs 401 people locally and 2,200 globally. A company spokesman said no layoffs or facility closures are expected with the deal, and the company headquarters will remain in Maryland Heights. Officials said the Desloge family and other shareholders will maintain a minority ownership in the company, which was founded in 1922, after the deal closes. The acquisition follows Watlows own series of purchases that helped the company scale business globally.

July 2020: Dow announces sale of rail infrastructure assets at six North American sites. Transaction driven by best-owner mindset and focus on investing for growth in core businesses
Watco Companies selected as new rail operations partner, bringing industry-leading rail experience and capabilities, as well as opportunities for growth investments. Dow Inc. (NYSE: DOW) announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell its rail infrastructure assets and related equipment at six major North American sites to Watco Companies (Watco), a Pittsburg, Kansas-based transportation company providing transportation, terminal and port, supply chain, and mechanical solutions for customers throughout North America and Australia. Dow expects to receive cash proceeds in excess of $310 million as part of the transaction. The assets are located at Dow’s sites in Plaquemine and St. Charles, Louisiana; Freeport and Seadrift, Texas; and Ft. Saskatchewan and Prentiss in Alberta, Canada.
