Overview

An exhaust system primarily comprises several differently shaped metal or steel pipes, which are designed to be connected to one-another. The pipes conform to fit in a flush manned on the underside of a vehicle. The unit is attached to the manifold of the engine of a vehicle The purpose of these pipes, called an exhaust when assembled, is to direct exhaust fumes and unburnt gases towards the back or side, or upwards and away from the vehicle. In parallel with the various technological advancements in the automotive industry, designs of exhaust systems have been evolving significantly over the past decade. From a singles noisy exhaust system with no mufflers or baffle plates in the early days when cars were introduced, to dual exhaust systems and advanced functionalities and features in todays cars and vehicles, the automotive industry has come a long way. Systems currently have a component known as a ‘Y pipe, which enables creating a dual exhaust system, and the tailpipes are located apart towards each side of the vehicle. In order to ensure that exhaust pulses are equalized and exhausted equally from both tailpipes, balance pipes are used. The more high-end the car or vehicle, the more complex and advanced the exhaust system gets. Increasingly stringent government regulations in both, developed and developing countries globally, is resulting in design and development of more efficient and environment-friendly vehicle exhaust systems, and manufacturers are focusing on further ensuring CO2 and exhaust fumes are greatly reduced through research and development initiatives in this regard. The global automotive exhaust systems market is projected to witness significantly high growth over the next five years, but increasing preference and government-offered schemes and benefits to encourage adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is projected to restrain growth of this market to a significant extent thereafter.

Dynamics

Automotive exhaust system, which is a piping system, is specifically designed for monitoring reaction exhaust gases emitted from a controlled combustion, such as inside an engine. Environmental damage and rising concerns are among some of the primary factors that are supporting growth of the global automotive exhaust systems market. In order to reduce impact of harmful gas emissions on the environment as well as to reduce haze and allergies and breathing problems caused by air pollution, governments of various countries have introduced and implemented stringent regulations related to emission levels and vehicle manufacturing standards. In order to adhere to increasingly more stringent regulations introduced by governments, manufacturers of automotive exhaust systems are focusing on research and development activities to aid in producing more effective exhaust systems to prevent and reduce impact of exhaust fumes and emissions on the environment, which is also among other primary factors driving growth of the global market. Advancements in material science, technological and mechanical innovations to reduce air pollutants in exhaust systems, high demand for fuel-efficient automobiles, and constantly changing and use of more enhanced technologies in the global automotive sector, increasing automation trend to manufacture more enhanced exhaust systems, etc. are other factors contributing to driving market growth. Some factors hampering growth of the market include high cost and relatively different sound as compared to conventional exhausts in vehicles. In addition, shifting trend and increasing use of electric vehicles, fluctuating fuel prices, high CO2 emission levels, and high repair and initial costs are among other major factors hampering the growth of global automotive exhaust systems market to a certain extent currently.
